Spider control is included in the general pest plan.

Nothing about spiders costs extra in Hutto. They come with the recurring general pest plan, alongside the ants, roaches, scorpions and wasps, and every visit includes hand de-webbing and pulling egg sacs down before they hatch. Rebuilt webs between visits mean a free return trip, not a bill. The plan starts at $66 a month for a single-family home; a free on-site quote pins down the exact number.

Our approach

How we control spiders in Hutto.

Spider work is mechanical as much as chemical. Removing webs and egg sacs by hand does more than any product, and reducing the prey base keeps them from returning.

Bastion Pest Control technician in a light blue uniform pulling spider webs and egg sacs off a porch beam and eave by hand 1

De-web by hand

We physically strip webs and egg sacs from eaves, soffits, porches, corners and patio structures, which takes care of the next generation early.

Treat the harborage

Direct treatment into meter and valve boxes, garage door tracks, stone walls, under decks and behind stored items, where widows actually live.

Remove the food supply

The full TriBarrier treatment reduces the insects spiders eat. Fewer moths, crickets and ants near the house, fewer spiders sticking around.

Why homes collect spiders in Hutto.

Spider pressure in Hutto is mostly a consequence of everything else in the yard. Open prairie surroundings and heavy irrigation produce crickets, and new-construction exterior lighting on dark streets pulls in moths and midges all night, a reliable food supply that keeps spiders near the house. Widows favor water meter boxes, irrigation valve boxes, garage door track corners and stacked pots. Wolf spiders are the bigger complaint: when clay soil floods, they abandon their ground burrows and head for the driest thing nearby, which is your slab.

The other defining fact about Hutto is how recently it was farmland. This was cotton and row-crop country, and the subdivisions in Star Ranch, Emory Farms, Carmel Creek and Mager Meadows were built on it, much of it within the last fifteen years. When a new section breaks ground, the field mice, rodents and insects living on that land do not leave the area; they move into the nearest structures. That is why so many of our Hutto calls come from houses only a few years old, from owners who assumed a new build would be sealed tight.

Spiders are the guests, not the party. They set up wherever dinner is being served, so a house crawling with spiders is really a house crawling with the bugs spiders eat. Treat only the spiders and they will be back by Thursday. Take away the buffet and they move out on their own. It is also why this job is as much broom as it is bottle. Pulling webs and egg sacs down by hand beats any product in a can, because one egg sac holds hundreds of spiderlings and no spray gets through the wrapper. Leave it up and you have not removed a spider, you have preordered three hundred.

Blackland clay

Holds water instead of draining it, then cracks open in summer heat.

Former farmland

New sections displace field mice and insects directly into nearby homes.

Very new housing

Builder gaps: soffit seams, line sets, garage corners, are the main entry points.

Brushy Creek & ponds

The creek corridor and subdivision detention ponds hold standing water for days.

Seasonal pattern

When spider activity peaks in Hutto.

Spiders stick around all year out here, because a Central Texas winter is not much of a deterrent. What changes is early fall, when they quietly relocate from the field and the fence line into your garage.

Typical spider activity in Hutto by month Activity is lowest in January and February, climbs steadily through spring and summer, peaks in September and October, then drops sharply through November and December. Cellar spider on a tangled web in the corner of a closet shelf next to clothes hangers, with a wrapped insect in the web
Cellar spider Closet shelf

Loose tangled web, one wrapped meal, and a shelf nobody has touched in months. That is the whole appeal.

Long-legged spider Bathroom vanity

Inside the cabinet under the sink. Damp, dark, and behind a door that stays shut.

Brown patterned spider resting on stacked manila file folders inside a storage box, with a captured insect beside it
Ground hunter Boxed files in storage

Sitting on the folders with dinner already caught. Undisturbed cardboard is prime real estate.

Black widow spider with a red hourglass marking on webbing above a garage workbench, with an egg sac and a juvenile spider nearby
Black widow Garage workbench

Red hourglass, an egg sac above her, and a juvenile off to the right. Low, dark and undisturbed is exactly the brief.

Funnel weaver spider on a dense sheet web under a house eave, surrounded by trapped insect carcasses
Funnel weaver Under the eave

A whole season of insects caught in one sheet web. The funnel retreat sits just out of frame.

Large orb weaver spider at the center of an orb web strung across a covered back patio at night, lit by string lights
Orb weaver Covered patio

Rebuilt across the walkway every night. Those string lights are doing the recruiting.

Two long-legged cellar spiders on webbing in the ceiling corner of a garage near a wooden beam
Cellar spiders Garage ceiling corner

Two of them and webbing across the entire corner. Garage corners are the single most common call we get.

Know your pest

The spiders we find in Hutto.

Two spiders dominate Hutto's cast, and neither builds a web you will notice. Wolf spiders come in off the flooded clay after every heavy rain. Widows sit in the valve boxes and garage door tracks of houses in Star Ranch and Emory Farms that are barely five years old. Orb weavers work the porch lights on the dark new streets. Your technician confirms the species on site before treatment starts, since a wolf spider on the slab needs a perimeter treatment, not a garage full of spray.

Black widow spider (Latrodectus mactans) on a weathered fence post, showing its glossy black body and red hourglass markings

Black widow

Latrodectus mactans

Red hourglass under a glossy black body, and the one on this page that genuinely matters. New Hutto sections hand her ideal real estate faster than older neighborhoods do: a water meter box nobody has opened, an irrigation valve box, garage door track corners, a stack of nursery pots left by the side gate. Low, dark, undisturbed is the whole requirement. Gloves before you reach into any of it. Southern black widow identification guide (Texas A&M)

Southern black widow. Glossy black body, red hourglass underneath.
Brown recluse spider (Loxosceles) on a sunlit rock, showing its tan body and long, evenly colored legs

Brown recluse

Loxosceles spp.

Tan with a faint violin marking behind the head. Present in Central Texas but far less common than people fear. Prefers undisturbed interior storage: closets, boxes, behind furniture, stored clothing and shoes. Recluse spider identification guide (Texas A&M)

Brown recluse. Tan, long-legged, with a faint violin marking behind the head.
Wolf spider (family Lycosidae) on a weathered wooden post, showing its large hairy body and mottled brown markings

Wolf spider

Family Lycosidae

Large, hairy, fast and webless, and the spider Hutto homeowners call about most. Blackland clay holds water instead of draining it, so a heavy rain floods the ground burrows these hunters live in, and the driest thing within sprinting distance is your slab. That is a soil problem, not an infestation. Not medically significant, though nobody believes that at 11pm with one on the kitchen floor. A treated foundation perimeter is what stops them at the door.

Wolf spider. Large, hairy and webless. A ground hunter, not a web builder.
Orb weaver spider (family Araneidae) at the center of its circular web, showing its yellow and black patterned abdomen

Orb weavers

Family Araneidae

The big circular web spun across the walkway overnight. Hutto was cropland a generation ago and still has little mature canopy, so instead of anchoring to old trees these spiders use what is standing: porch posts, fence panels, downspouts and the eave line. That makes the webs more obvious here than in a shaded older suburb. Harmless, useful in the yard, and cleared by hand on every visit along with the egg sacs.

Orb weaver at the center of its overnight web. Not a medically significant species, and cleared at every visit.
Cellar spider (family Pholcidae) hanging in a large tangled web, showing its long, thin legs

Cellar spiders

Family Pholcidae

Loose tangled webbing, absurdly long legs, no danger to anybody. All they ask for is a corner nobody visits, and a newer house supplies plenty: garage ceiling corners, the void behind the water heater, the back of a closet shelf, under the stairs. The webbing accumulates faster than the spiders multiply, which is why the corner looks worse than the problem is. Hand clearing, then keep it on the route.

Cellar spider in its loose, tangled web. Long legs, and not a medically significant species.
Jumping spider (family Salticidae) on a rock, showing its large forward-facing eyes and compact hairy body

Jumping spiders

Family Salticidae

Small, compact and quick, often with iridescent markings. Daytime hunters on exterior walls and window frames. Not medically significant, and weirdly charming.

Jumping spider. Compact, quick, big forward eyes. A daytime hunter.
Brown widow spider (Latrodectus geometricus) hanging beneath its web, showing the orange hourglass marking on the underside of its abdomen

Brown widow

Latrodectus geometricus

The black widow's less famous relative, and increasingly turning up around the Austin metro. Tan to brown rather than glossy black, with an orange hourglass instead of a red one. The giveaway is the egg sac, which is covered in small spiky points. It is a medically significant species like its cousin, so give it the same wide berth and do not handle it.

A note on bites and stings. Reactions vary from person to person, and any bite or sting can cause a serious reaction in someone sensitive to it. Nothing here is medical advice. If you are bitten or stung and feel unwell, or the reaction spreads or does not settle, contact a doctor or Poison Control. If breathing or swallowing is affected, treat it as an emergency and call 911.

Warning signs

What we look for on the first visit.

New construction hides its spiders in plain sight: the soffit seam the builder skipped, the garage door corner, the valve box lid nobody has lifted since closing. Blackland clay adds wolf spiders after every soaking rain. Give us a call and describe what you are seeing. Usually we can tell you over the phone whether it warrants a same-day visit, which most days we can fit in.

  • Tangled webbing in garage corners or under eaves
  • Webs inside the water meter or valve box
  • Egg sacs (smooth white spheres) in sheltered corners
  • Fast ground spiders indoors after heavy rain
  • Fresh orb webs across the porch each morning
  • Webbing under grills, furniture or stacked pots
  • Wolf spiders on the garage slab after clay floods
  • Webbing at soffit seams or line sets on a new build

Where we treat spiders in Hutto.

Spiders in Hutto track the newest construction and the wettest ground. Star Ranch and Emory Farms are recent builds on old row-crop land, so crickets and moths are abundant and the builder gaps are still open. Park at Brushy Creek and Riverwalk, along the creek and the detention ponds, get wolf spiders indoors every time the clay floods. Whether it is spider removal in Hutto at one house or the whole street, it is a routine stop for us.

Questions Hutto homeowners ask about spiders.

How much does spider control cost in Hutto, TX?

Spider control and de-webbing are included in our general pest plan starting at $66 per month for a single-family home in Hutto. That covers spiders along with ants, roaches, scorpions, wasps and rodents, and there is no surcharge for treating black widows. Your exact price depends on home and lot size, confirmed with a free on-site quote.

Are there black widows in Hutto?

Yes, including in houses only a few years old. People assume a new build is too clean or too sealed for widows, and it is not, because a widow is not looking for grime. She wants a dark cavity nobody touches, and a new home comes with a fresh set: meter box, irrigation valve box, garage door track corners, the gap under a plastic pot by the gate. Out on the edge of a new section, with pasture still on the far side of the fence, there is a steady supply walking in. Bites are medically significant, so we treat those voids every visit.

Why do I get big spiders inside after it rains?

Those are almost always wolf spiders reacting to flooding. Heavy rain saturates the ground and floods the burrows and crevices they hunt from, so they move to the driest high ground available. Your slab and garage. It is not an infestation and it says nothing about how clean the house is. A treated perimeter is what stops them at the foundation.

Do you actually remove the webs, or just spray?

We remove them by hand every visit: eaves, soffits, porches, patio columns, corners and door frames, egg sacs and all. The sacs matter most. Skip one and you have just made an appointment with yourself for next month.

Is spider treatment kid and pet friendly?

Our treatments are pet and kid friendly, and they go into the voids and harborage where spiders shelter: meter boxes, wall voids, under decks, garage corners, rather than across open floors or play areas. Keep kids and pets off treated exterior surfaces until dry, roughly 30 minutes, and we will show you every area we treated before we leave. Your technician will tell you if any area needs longer.

How do I keep spiders out between visits?

Change the bulbs and you win most of this. Warm or yellow LED exterior lighting pulls in a fraction of the moths and midges, and the spiders were only ever following the moths. With so few mature trees here the porch light really is the main attraction. Then keep mulch and landscape stone a few inches off the slab, store firewood raised and away from the wall, and mow the strip along any fence that backs onto open ground. Gloves for meter boxes, valve boxes and stacked pots.

My Hutto house is only three years old. Why does it already have widows?

Because a new house is not a sealed house, and the yard around it used to be farmland. Builder gaps at soffit seams, line sets and garage door track corners are ready-made voids, and the water meter and irrigation valve boxes were installed before you moved in. Meanwhile the crickets and moths that lived in the field are now living at your porch light. A widow finds all of that within a season. We treat the boxes and gaps on every visit.

Do the detention ponds near Brushy Creek make spiders worse in Hutto?

They make the food supply worse, which amounts to the same thing. Ponds that hold standing water for days after a rain hatch midges and mosquitoes, and those fly straight to the nearest lit porch, where orb weavers are waiting. The flooding that fills the ponds also floods wolf spider burrows in the clay and pushes them toward the nearest slab. Homes backing onto the ponds get a heavier perimeter treatment and more attention to exterior lighting.
